Ok.. soo.. we were suppose to close on the 2nd so the boys can move while the shower was going on. Unfortunately, it didn't close on the 2nd, and Anthony had to be out of his place by the 9th. So the latest date we had to move by was the 8th since we were flying to New Orleans on the night of the 9th for Carlos' wedding.
We reschedule to close on the 6th, but that didn't happen either. The seller had dragged his feet on getting the power of attorney and the doctor's note saying that his mom is in a nursing home and has dementia and is legally authorized to sell her place. He missed the UPS/FedEx deadline to send these necessary docs on time, and Friday was a bank holiday since July 4th was a Saturday. Therefore, it didn't technically get to escrow until Monday. And because it didn't close on time, our loan lock in rate needed to be extended and he refused to pay but it was clearly his fault and everyone is telling him it's his fault. So whatever, our bank said we didn't have to pay the fee so I didn't really care as long as someone covers it.
Anywho.. they did all the processing and the contingency fee that the seller sent in didn't cover all the costs that he owed - the sellers owed back taxes, owed back HOA dues, and owes us a credit for repairs. Needless to say.. we didn't close on Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday.
Back to what I said about Anthony needed to be out of his place by the 9th. Wednesday the 8th, Anthony's dad came up and helped him move out of his place. Where did he end up putting all his stuff you ask? OUR AGENT'S GARAGE!!!
Thursday comes... Anthony handed over the keys to the apartment at 3pm, I get a call from Caz telling me he had good news and bad news at about the same time. He started with the bad news and his phone started breaking up, but I had to go into a meeting and I told him I will call him back afterwards. I get out of the meeting at 4pm thinking, "uh oh... we didn't close again"
I call Anthony to come get me because we need to head to the airport to catch our flight to New Orleans. and we originally were going to park at the new place in the garage so the car would be safe. We ended up parking on the street by our agent's place. Caz told Anthony that he would give us the keys on Sunday at which point a light bulb went on in my head that we were officially in more debt!!! And then he took us to the airport too! (BTW.. he totally earned his commission)
After the wedding, you can find story below this one, we got back into town late Sunday afternoon. Caz loaded up his pick up and helped Anthony get his stuff to the new place and gave us our keys. But obviously something is missing.. the clicker to the garage and the key to the mailbox.
Two days of communication back and forth with the seller's agent, we managed to get the clicker, but still no mail key. So last Friday, we said screw it.. We changed the locks on everything.
...and that is my escrow hell...
